Retired Nurse for the City of Boston

Obituary

REYNOLDS, Carol Marie Therese (Lawton) of Dedham, formerly of Dorchester, died at home surrounded by her loving family on September 29, 2021. She was 83 years old.

Carol seized each day of her life with unyielding perseverance, and she brought that same resolve to battle her lung cancer diagnosis. Until the very end, she remained a hopeful, graceful, resilient, and relentless fighter.

Carol was born in Dorchester, MA on December 7, 1937 to Joseph F. and Mary A. (Fitzgibbon) Lawton. After her graduation from high school, she received her Nursing Degree in 1958 from Cambridge City School of Nursing, beginning her career at the former Mattapan Chronic Disease Hospital, an adjunct facility to Boston City Hospital, in Boston, MA.

During her 26 years with Boston City Hospital, she cared for patients in the last stages of life, including patients with HIV-AIDS. Her remaining working years were spent in the employ of Golden Living Center in Norwood, MA, where she retired reluctantly at the age of 75. She was a dedicated, compassionate and caring nurse for 55 years.

Carol's love of nursing was surpassed only by her love of family. She was the beloved wife of Paul M. Reynolds, loving mother of Paula M. and her husband, Dennis Sproul of Hanover, James J. and his wife, Linda Reynolds of Milton, Rosemary and her husband, Joseph O'Toole of South Boston, and her late infant daughter, Patricia Mary Reynolds.

Carol was a devoted "Nana" to James Charette, Noelle Charette and her husband, Jonathan Zayir, Samantha Reynolds, Kiernan Reynolds, Lawton Reynolds, Conor O'Toole, Aidan O'Toole, and Colman O'Toole. She was also great grandmother or "GG" to Valentina Zayir.

Carol is survived by her beloved maltipoo, Gronk.

In addition to her parents, Carol is predeceased by her sister, Claire Anne Alba, brother, Joseph F. Lawton Jr., his wife, Claire (Byron), son Joseph F. Lawton III, and daughter, Susan (Lawton) Mendes.

Family and friends will honor and remember Carol's life by gathering for visiting hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, on Monday, October 4th, from 4-8 P.M.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Mark's Church, 1725 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester, on Tuesday morning, October 5th, at 10 A.M.

Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol's memory may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306; (718) 987-1931; https://t2t.org.
